What' the big deal?

Flicking through Spektacle Heights, you will be greeted by a series of QR codes that act as a turnstile to another world. Using your iPhone as a first class ticket, snap codes from page to page and find yourself connected to everything good our neighbourhood has to offer.

So what the heck are QR codes? It all started in 1994 when a Japanese company called Denso-Wave developed innovative uses for the new cameras in mobile phones. They discovered a way to store information like url addresses, phone numbers and even simple text messages inside QR codes, enabling mobile phones to decipher these codes, thus helping make mobile phones more than just a phone.

Now for the first time in our neighbourhood’s history, residents young and old can enjoy all the benefits QR codes have to offer. All you need is an iPhone or iPod Touch and a free QR code reader. To get started just follow the simple instructions on this page to get snapping.

Whenever you spot a QR code, simply follow these steps:

1. Start the NeoReader and touch the screen to start.
2. Centre a QR code in your iPhone’s screen and touch the camera icon.
3. Confirm your selection.
4. The reader will do the rest, opening Safari and connecting you to our special iPhone content.

See it in action...

Once upon a time we thought that we cold be friends with all phones, but it simply didn't work out. However, as SHNA Greenery Director Gemma O'Brien demonstrates, snapping QR codes is fun, even if it's not on an iPhone.
